Farmers Market meets Farm-to-Table restaurant in Gresham
Recently, I had been making my rounds meeting with new market vendors in Historic Downtown Gresham . As I happen to come across some new construction work on the corner of Main Street and 4th Street, I poked my head in to say hello. To my delighted, surprise I learned the new space was preparing to be a new farm-to-table restaurant!
I immediately made connections with owners Dylan and Lena of Blue Bird Dining Hall. Lena grew up in the Gresham area and went to Gresham High school and now runs her business here; how cool is that? You can’t get any more local than that! Also a small world, as she went to school with one of my first cousins since 4th grade.
As market manager, I cannot express my excitement enough to have Blue Bird as a new addition into the community. The restaurant is within walking distance to the farmers market. I also met with their executive chef Molly who inquired from me a list of all our market farm vendors to locally source for the restaurant. I am currently working with Molly to introduce her to our many farmers from the market to get their farm fresh produce straight from the field onto the restaurant’s plates.
Blue Bird Dining Hall takes pride in locally sourcing from local area farms and has been so supportive of the farmers market. This is what is it all about! This is definitely one of our main purposes and mission of our farmers’ market is to be the connector for local businesses and residence to local farmers and market vendors. We as the market strive to be a service and bridge to support the local economy and are strong advocates of community building.
Blue Bird Dining Hall offers a very shabby-chic, understated elegant and classic dining ambiance. The menu is very well-rounded by offering Northwest cuisines with each of type of proteins and vegetarian options. Blue Bird offered it’s first brunch on Easter Sunday and the happy hours are my absolute favorite! Excellent selections of tasty cocktails, refined wines and fantastic flavorful foods. The best way to describe the restaurant, it’s a very Portland-style farm-to-table but in the middle of downtown Gresham!
