It’s absolutely surreal.  Yes, this year marks the 29th season of the Gresham Farmers Market! Established in 1986, the market has been a long standing tradition in the Gresham area.  It has stood the test of time even through all the ups and downs throughout the years, the market still stands tall and stronger than ever!

11133842_954191131266528_1033971167644831048_nThe Market has a rich history in the community and dates back to its originator and market founder Polly Casterline. Casterline was a Legislator for District 10.  In 1986, it was her vision and efforts that made the Gresham Farmers’ Market become a reality.  It was during that time in the mid to late 80’s that farmers markets across the nation began to gain popularity in support of local area farmers and as a resource for community members to gain access to local farm fresh produce.

The Gresham Farmers Market is a non-profit 501C and relies solely on generous  contributions/donations, market membership and vendor stall fees to self-suffiently manage the day to day operations, maintenance and activities.

Currently, the market has a little under or a little over 100 vendors throughout the entire season on any given day, depending on what local produce and/or products’ are seasonally available.  Long time vendor Blueberry Hill Farms has been in the market since the beginning for the entire 29 years and another long time vendor Alderman Family Farm has been in the market for 27 years.  New farm additions to the market this season are:  Fiddlehead Farm, Slice of Heaven Farm and Udan Farm.

The Gresham Farmers Market definitely has a great blend and variety of vendors from the local surrounding areas such as Boring, Sandy and Corbett.  We also have vendors from further areas out such as Hood River, Parkdale, Molalla, Canby and Goldendale Wa.  We are so grateful to have the continued support of all our returning vendors and are excited to welcome our new vendors to the market; without which we wouldn’t be the successful, viable market that we have been and are today.

Much appreciation to the City of Gresham and local government agencies for their continued support and partnership every year.  As the new market manager, I very much appreciate the warm welcome and support of all the local Gresham area businesses, the Historic Downtown Gresham business association and the Gresham Chamber of Commerce.

Most especially, thank you to all Gresham community members and patrons of our market.  For 29 years, it’s the community and it’s people that are the most important VIPs of all, as you are our customers that we cherish and value most to serve every Saturday!

I feel so privileged and honored to be apart of this amazing organization and look forward to another 29 more years!

– As Always, Amelia
